The traditional Nadar groom of any religion is likely to dress up in the dhoti that is typical of most South Indian weddings. Grooms, in general, have fewer options of dressing up than the brides that can go resplendent in the typical traditional look or even a fusion effect. With the fusion effect look taking over most marriages and also people from one region experimenting with the looks and the food habits of another state, marriages have become more fun indeed.
The dressing guide
As a groom, you can make yourself attractive by putting on some offbeat outfits and accessories that will remind everyone of your Nadar matrimony. The first option that you have is to wear an outfit that comes from the Northern part of India that is the Sherwani that comes in a wide range.
- You can couple the Sherwani with the traditional dhoti instead of the pajama and make yourself look fabulous on the day of your wedding. The Sherwanis are usually made out of heavy brocade and silk material that are long and will go beyond your knees. Depending on your height you can choose from the solid color options or try the heavily embroidered ones.
- For those of you that have good height, you can try out the heavy golden embroidery on the shiny base material. Or else, it is better to stick to the matte finish and the attractive solid color. One way you can really spice up the look for your Nadar matrimony is by matching the colors of your outfit with that of the bride. Keeping the dhoti or the churidar white, match the color of your Sherwani according to the color of your bride’s sari or whatever she chooses to wear.
- It is better to give yourself a long leg look for your wedding as it is very much in vogue. In that case, you will have to do away with the dhoti and wear a churidar, preferably white in color and also keep the length of your Sherwani to the knee area. This will give the visual effect of having long legs make you look attractive too.
- The other option is to go in for the formal western three piece suite that a lot of modern grooms are choosing over the traditional attire. But as the traditional ceremonies include exchange of the flower garlands, the Indian outfits look better. If you are weary of the heavy look that the silk Sherwanis have, then there are lighter ones that also have the dupatta which can fashionably wrap around your neck in a contrast of colors. Usually, the kurta will be white and the dupatta a red one that will also complement the auspicious color of your Nadar matrimony.
Pay attention to the shoes that you are wearing as a groom on your wedding day. It should complement the outfit that you are wearing whether one of the traditional Indian ones or the classical western suit. In the case of the traditional Indian outfits, it should match the color and the tone of what you are wearing. You can also try the Kolhapuri slippers that will go well with almost any Indian outfit.
